Kentucky Distillers’ Association

Creating a Full Proof Bourbon Website

Background

BOLD NEW BRAND. BOLD NEW SITE.

When the Kentucky Distillers’ Association (KDA) asked us to create a brand identity for Kentucky Bourbon, we knew a website would soon be underway–so we teamed up with Mediocre Creative to make it happen.

While the Kentucky Bourbon Trail® website was created to help visitors plan their distillery experiences, the Kentucky Bourbon website required a different approach. It needed to celebrate the people, places and stories behind the Bourbon–and to do so from two very different perspectives: from the lens of the industry and the consumer (enthusiast).

Essentially, it needed to be created as a dual-functioning site that meets the needs of both audiences, and allows users to choose which side they’d like to explore.

Execution

ROLLING INTO DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT

When designing the site, our goals were simple: Make it modern. Make it user-friendly. Tell the story.

This meant incorporating vibrant photography, bold headlines, dynamic features, colorful blocks and other unique elements. Bourbon lingo and content-rich stories were woven throughout both sides of the site to provide a dynamic, informative experience for enthusiasts and industry alike.

A scrolling history timeline was created to allow users to navigate the history of Kentucky Bourbon, going all the way back to the very beginning. Custom hand-drawn illustrations, modern fonts and textured elements were incorporated to offer a fresh take on the traditional Bourbon visual identity.

Filled with stats, facts and stories, the Kentucky Bourbon website was designed to breathe new life into an industry built on tradition.
