Kentucky Distillers’ Association

Elevating Bourbon’s Most Legendary Association

Background

PROMOTING & PROTECTING BOURBON SINCE 1880.

The Kentucky Distillers’ Association (KDA) is a non-profit trade association that’s been promoting and protecting Bourbon since 1880. With over 140 years of industry-leading experience under their belt, they’ve played a huge role in shaping Kentucky Bourbon into what it is today.

From founding the world-famous Kentucky Bourbon Trail® to advancing Kentucky Bourbon through advocacy and action, KDA is building a legacy that only gets better with age. To ensure their brand is as solid as their reputation, they asked us to refresh their visual identity.

Execution

A NATURAL BRAND EVOLUTION

When reimagining KDA’s visual identity, our strategy was to evolve–not overhaul–their existing brand. This meant rethinking the logo, color palette and font family, while maintaining some distinguishable characteristics.

We kept the logo’s original coin shape, but added greater emphasis on typeface and juxtaposition. To increase brand visibility and overall recognition, we placed the KDA acronym front-and-center.

By moving away from dated design elements and colors, we arrived at a bolder, more dynamic look that will carry KDA well into the future–while still looking like a natural evolution for their brand.
